How is the total amount to pay a creator calculated?

Learn how the total amount to pay a creator is calculated: net payment, SII withholding, VAT (IVA) and the fee for each payment method.

When you pay for a collaboration through Montu, the total amount includes not only the payment to the creator but also the related tax and operating components. Here's how that total is made up.

💰 1. Net payment to the creator

This is the net amount the content creator will receive in their Montu Wallet once the Work Order is completed or the affiliate commission is paid out.

This is the base amount used to calculate the other components.

📊 2. SII withholding (15.25%)

Under current Chilean tax law, payments to content creators are subject to a 15.25% fee withholding tax ("retención de honorarios").

To calculate it, Montu uses this formula:

  • Gross payment = Net payment / (1 - 0.1525)
  • Withholding = Gross payment - Net payment

Montu withholds this amount and then reports and pays it to Chile's Internal Revenue Service (Servicio de Impuestos Internos, SII).

💳 3. Payment method fee (optional)

Depending on the payment method you choose, an additional fee may apply to the subtotal (before VAT):

  • MercadoPago: a fee applies for using the payment gateway.
  • Montu Wallet ("Billetera Montu"): no fee.
  • Consolidated invoice (Enterprise plans only): 10% surcharge for handling.

🧾 4. VAT (19%)

Because Montu issues an electronic invoice for the total transaction, 19% VAT is applied to the subtotal (which includes the payment to the creator, the withholding and the fee, if applicable).
